What is Panchakarma?
Panchakarma is a traditional Ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation therapy. It consists of a set of therapeutic measures aimed at cleansing and rejuvenating the body and mind. The term “Panchakarma” translates to “Five Actions,” and it involves five key procedures:
- Vaman (Medicated Emesis): This involves inducing controlled vomiting to eliminate toxins from the upper respiratory and digestive tract.
- Virechan (Purgation): This therapy uses natural laxatives to promote controlled bowel movements, aiding in the removal of accumulated toxins from the body.
- Nasyam (Nasal Instillation): Medicinal oils or herbal preparations are administered through the nostrils to clear the nasal passages, throat, and head, helping to alleviate respiratory and neurological issues.
- Kashay Basti (Enema): A therapeutic enema using herbal decoctions is administered to cleanse the colon and rectum, eliminating toxins and promoting digestive health.
- Sneha Basti (Enema): In this enema treatment, medicated oils or ghee (clarified butter) are introduced into the rectum to nourish the body, improve overall health, and balance the doshas (bio-energies).
